How we research & rank standing desks

We research and compare — we don't run a hardware lab, and we won't pretend we do. Every claim on this site is grounded in manufacturer specifications, patterns in verified owner reviews, and independent expert coverage, cross-checked against each other. Here is exactly how a desk earns (or loses) a recommendation.

The criteria come first

Before comparing anything we fix the checklist that matters for a sit-stand desk: frame stability at standing height (the make-or-break factor, and the most common complaint in owner reviews), real weight capacity with a typical dual-monitor load, lift range for the sitter's height, desktop depth, motor noise, assembly experience, and warranty terms. Every desk is judged against the same list, so rankings are explainable line by line.

Where the facts come from

• Specifications and prices: pulled from the manufacturer's own pages and major retailer listings — never from other roundups.
• Real-world behaviour: patterns across verified owner reviews (wobble at height, motor failures, missing hardware, support experiences). One angry review is noise; fifty saying the same thing is data.
• Independent coverage: hands-on tests published by outlets that do run labs, used as a cross-check on stability and noise claims.

How the ranking works

Stability evidence is weighted most heavily, then capacity, lift range, desktop options, noise, and warranty. Every pick names who it's for and who should skip it. If a desk is overpriced or overhyped, we say so — a page where every product is great is a page you can't trust.

What would change a pick

A newer model that beats the current pick on the criteria above, a sustained price shift that changes the value equation, a clear pattern of reliability complaints in owner feedback, or a discontinuation. When that happens we update the ranking and the last-updated date on the page.
