Fully Jarvis Bamboo Review: The Best-Looking Standing Desk

Verdict: The best-looking desk here and now backed by Herman Miller — but at around $1,036 it's a design-and-brand purchase, not a value one.

The verdict up front

The Jarvis Bamboo is the desk in this group you buy with your eyes. The bamboo top is warm, distinctive, and better finished than any laminate, and the frame underneath is a competent dual-motor, three-stage design with a smooth, quiet lift. Since Herman Miller absorbed the Fully brand, it also carries one of the most recognizable names in office furniture.

What it no longer carries is a value argument. At around $1,036 the Jarvis costs more than double the Flexispot E7 Pro, and its 7-year frame warranty is less than half the 15 years behind both the E7 Pro and the Uplift V3. If you are shopping on specs per dollar, this is not your desk. If you are tall and plan to run heavy monitor arms at maximum height, the stability notes below deserve a careful read too. The Jarvis makes sense for one buyer: someone who wants this specific look, values the Herman Miller name, and is comfortable paying for both.

From Fully to Herman Miller

Some history, because it affects what you are buying. Fully, the Oregon company that made the Jarvis a category favorite, was acquired by Herman Miller and then wound down as a standalone brand; Fully.com now redirects to the Herman Miller store, where the Jarvis lives on. The desk’s design carried over intact. The pricing did not. The bamboo model now lists around $1,036, well above what Fully used to charge for effectively the same hardware, and Herman Miller’s warranty on the frame, motors, and electronics runs 7 years, with 5 years on the top.

Herman Miller backing is genuinely worth something. It is a large, stable company that will exist when you need a part in year six. But you are paying a substantial brand premium for a desk that used to compete on price as well as looks.

Frame and stability

The frame is a dual-motor, three-stage design rated to 350 lb, which is ample for any realistic home setup. Through normal sitting and low standing heights, owners consistently describe it as steady, and the lift is one of the smoothest in the category.

The caveat arrives at the top of the range. Independent stability testing of the Jarvis frame, notably BTOD’s WobbleMeter measurements, has repeatedly found that lateral steadiness drops off above roughly 40 inches, with side-to-side motion becoming noticeable near maximum height. Fully addressed this partway through the desk’s life by adding stabilizing wedges to the leg assembly, which measurably improved things, and most owners at average height never work high enough to notice. Still, if you are tall enough to stand the desk at 44 inches or more with a loaded monitor arm, the Uplift V3’s reinforced frame is the safer choice. The Jarvis’s 25.75 to 51.25 inch range is actually the tallest here on paper; the irony is that its stability is weakest exactly where that extra reach gets used.

The bamboo top

The desktop is the reason this desk exists at this price. The bamboo is thick, sustainably grown, and finished to a warmth that laminate does not approach. It photographs well, it ages well, and in a living room or a visible home office it reads as furniture rather than office equipment.

It also asks something of you. Bamboo wants occasional oiling to keep its finish, and it will show water rings and dents more readily than a good laminate. If you treat desks roughly, or resent maintenance, the E7 Pro’s plainer top will serve you better. Sizes run from 30 to 78 inches wide, and the smaller widths make the Jarvis one of the few premium desks that fits a genuinely compact room.

Motor, controls, and everyday use

The dual motors lift at around 50 dB, quiet enough to raise the desk mid-call, and owner reviews regularly single out how smooth the travel feels. The programmable handset stores height presets, which sounds minor but is the difference between actually alternating positions and leaving the desk parked. Assembly and warranty

Assembly is a conventional job, roughly an hour for one careful person, and nothing about it stands out in owner feedback in either direction. The warranty does stand out, unfavorably: 7 years on the frame and motors from Herman Miller against 15 years from Uplift and Flexispot, on a desk that costs the most of the three. Seven years is not short in absolute terms. It is short relative to the price, and warranty length matters on a motorized product you plan to keep for a decade.

Just go in clear-eyed: you are paying around double for looks and a logo, accepting half the warranty, and giving up some steadiness at maximum height.
